The storm season in Queensland is expected to become more violent with thunderstorms intensifying within the months of October to November. With these occurrences, it is advised by the Emergency Services Minster Neil Roberts to also intensify the level of household preparedness of every resident in Queensland.

To better call the awareness of the residents, the Department of Community Safety Department spearheaded an information drive waging warning to the people. The campaign was aptly dubbed as ìCan You Survive Three Days?î
The campaignís theme is very timely in raising the awareness of the residents such that many individuals in Queensland are assessing their preparedness in case cyclones and other violent weather disturbances occur to an extent of three days. The government of Queensland has imposed responsibilities to its residents on managing the preparedness of their own households during occurrences of cyclones and storms.

The campaign also reinforces the responsibilities of the homeowners to their properties. Such responsibilities include the cleaning and maintenance of gutters. These structures play crucial roles during heavy rain pour as the cyclone hurls its devastating effects. When the gutters are clean, the rain water can flow smoothly down the spouts, drainage, or rain barrels.
The three-day survival campaign also stressed the importance of cutting overhanging branches of trees that are affecting the functionality of the gutters and the roof itself. The tree branches when not cut before the occurrence of a storm can start a series of unfortunate events including clogging the gutters, damaging the roof, being a conductor of lightning, or falling to other structures in the ground.

Aside from being a responsible homeowner in terms of pre-storm cleaning and maintenance procedures, residents of Queensland are also encouraged to be totally prepared in terms of emergency kits composed of light sources like candles and flashlights, first aid kits, and enough three-day supply of water and food. The stock of foods should include those that can be readily eaten in anticipation of lack of cooking supplies like oil and gas and in cases when services like electricity and water would be cut.

Mr. Roberts further stated that property preparedness and household readiness should not be taken for granted when the arrival of storms and cyclones are announced. It is very important to act quickly. Get those fixes and maintenance done immediately. Store water, food, and medicine and have your emergency kits ready. Being ready in advance is better than getting ready in the last minutes especially when the storm or cyclone is starting to manifest its presence.

There are above average chances of storms and cyclones being formed this storm season. Do not be left out in property and household preparedness during these times. Act now and be safe and sound inside your house as the wrath of wind and rain rages their combined angers. Ask your friendly gutter installers and cleaners at www.totalguard.com.au. Their expert services will make sure that your house is kept ready to face the devastating effects of storms and cyclones. Combine this with your own preparedness and alertness and rest assured you and your family will be able to survive three days of storm or cyclone even if essential services become temporarily unavailable.

The occurrence of bushfires across Australia is a frequent incident especially during the summer months so tagged as the bushfire season. During this season, bushfires of varying sizes and scales are recorded yearly by the Emergency Management Australia.

If your house sits in a bushland or near its perimeter, then you must adhere to the precautionary steps recommended by the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS).

Your house or property needs to be prepared in case bushfires occurred. During bushfire season, your house needs to be cleaned of ember materials such as wood piles, old newspapers, dead twigs, fallen leaves, and flammable resources such as gas tanks and bottles. House structures like gutters and roof need to be drizzled with water to prevent conduction of heat and probable ignition of fire. The QFRS recommends that gutters be stripped off of debris and other particulates that could start a fire. It is also advised that leaf guards be installed to prevent falling leaves and other matter from residing into the gutter channel. Whenever possible, make sure that water is kept in the length of the gutter by blocking the pipe that goes down through the spout or rain barrel.

Backyards and lawns should also be kept clean from materials that could possibly start a fire. Running the sprinklers especially in times of the day when the heat is extreme would certainly help in keeping the premises wet. The backyard and lawn should be regularly eliminated of wilted leaves and grasses and other flammable materials.

When evacuation is being called forth by the situation, you need to turn off all sources of gas and power. Closing the doors, windows, and other entries will also help you prevent the spread of fire. Make sure that flammable materials are kept away from doors and windows. During the move out, make sure a neighbour or an authority is notified of your new address.

Personal preparedness should also be strictly observed especially when evacuation is being implemented. You need to have your own survival kit to help you carry out plans during the emergency situation. First aid kits, spare batteries, light source, water, and ready-to-eat foods should be in your carriage.

As the fire is ongoing, you need to protect yourself more than your property. Be sure that you are protected from head to foot, so as your family. Protective clothes should be composed of full-length clothing, enclosed shoes, hat, and goggles. Make sure that every family member or even pets have adequate supply of water to prevent dehydration.

After the fire, extinguish all spot fires in areas like gutters. Observe electric wires that might have fallen into the ground or that might come stuck in the roof or nearby trees. If your house has been left unsafe by the wrath of fire, make sure that anything left on it is kept secured from further damages that may be imposed by weather, vandalism or theft.

Being prepared plays a vital role in saving properties and saving lives during emergencies. www.totalguard.com.au joins every resident of Queensland in their endeavour to be prepared during the onslaught of emergencies by assuring that the gutters are well-cleasned and maintained and fitted of the necessary protection against various ember materials.

More and more individuals in Queensland are living in the bushy and leafy semirural and urban states lying in the outskirts of the cities and towns. With this, the Queensland Fire and Rescue Services (QFRS) initiated and information and awareness campaign geared towards assisting the residents to Prepare, Stay and defend, or Go Early when bushfires happen.

The officials of the QFRS together with the Queensland Police Service said that residents of the bushlands need to be prepared and know their selections when it comes to defending their homes and properties or leaving the bushfire site immediately. Knowing what to do in these emergency situations is a great help in saving properties and saving lives as well.
According to officials, there are a lot of bushfire incidents that ignite into severe levels due to the embers that are collected in the gutters of the residences. Most homeowners do not realize the great hazards posed by the fallen leaves and other materials in their gutters. Due to extreme heat, these materials become good conductors of heat and can eventually start a fire. Thus, homeowners are pushed to have their gutters and overhead structures be cleaned and eliminated of fire-prone materials. Residents also need to scrape off their surroundings of materials such as dried leaves, twigs, wood, and paper that can become catalysts of bushfires.

Simple household maintenance and cleaning tasks can make a great difference in preventing the occurrence of bushfires. For instance, eliminating the woodpiles and stocks of paper on your backyard or store room during the bushfire season is one step that can spare your home and assets and even your lives against the wrath of fire. Garden efforts such as trimming the grasses that grow within and removing dead plants and other possible fire-igniters are also preventive measures against bushfires.

Residents need not only make their homes and property fire-safe. They must also ready themselves in case bushfires happen in an instance. According to the QFRS, being in panic mode would not help at all. Presence of mind is a great factor that will help an individual think of ways in which the bushfire can be extinguished. This, of course requires the individual to possess the basic skills and the appropriate tools or resources to put out the fire. Extinguishing small ignitions can prevent worsening of the bushfire and most probably its spread over the bushlands and other properties.

Along the preparedness of the residents, they should also have evacuation plans in case the bushfire becomes unmanageable. They need to know when they should get out of their properties and leave the bushfire site. They must know where they will go and how would they reach that intended place. In a family composed of several members, it is important to talk about the warning sign that would all prompt you to leave the place.

Gutters can play a vital part in defending your property against bushfire. When you know that a bushfire is approaching your location, you need to feel the gutters with as much water as possible. Remember to block the pipes in order for the water to stay on the gutters.

Numerous gutter builders and professionals like www.totalguard.com.au can help you evaluate the preparedness of your gutters during bushfires. Their expert teams of gutter professionals have outright solutions to any problem you might have with your gutters.

Cleaning gutters and other simple tasks can prevent fire Being geared up and prepared for fire should be done whole year round but heightened levels of alertness among residents in Queensland should be observed during the fire season. This is also the basic idea of Pine Riversí State Member Carolyn Male. According to her, the extreme weather conditions being experienced in the south-east and south-west portions of the state should be reminders to residents to be prepared for the occurrences of fires. The state member also stressed out that residents need to guard their properties in every way they can. This is especially true during the summer months when extreme heat could ignite fires in the bushlands. In fact, the Black Saturday bushfire incident in Victoria could be a constant reminder of how destructive and devastating bushfires can be. It can be recalled that the incident happened on the 7th of February 2009 claiming 173 lives and leaving 414 persons injured. The incident was composed of some 400 individual bushfires that spread across the state of Victoria.

Cleaning gutters and other simple tasks can prevent fire

Being geared up and prepared for fire should be done whole year round but heightened levels of alertness among residents in Queensland should be observed during the fire season.

It was touted as the highest life-claiming bushfire in Australia that also destroyed more than 2030 houses and more than 3500 properties with thousands more left damaged.

Preparedness is a key aspect to prevent another occurrence of this dooming incident. Residents are encouraged to always prepare early when the bushfire season is fast-approaching. Simple household tasks such as eliminating garbage and other fire-starters within the premises of your house and property can spare you from the devastating effects of bushfire. Debris such as dried leaves, twigs, woodpiles, and old newspapers should be eliminated. Flammable items like fuel and gas bottles should be kept away from the property.

Gutters are also seen as crucial elements in the prevention of bushfires. It is a well-established fact that rain gutters also collect dirt and other particulates such as leaves especially when there are no leaf guards installed. Residents should always pay attention to the status of their gutters. They need to be cleaned of the dried leaves and other matters that are residing on its channels. Doing so can make a huge impact in preventing the spread of bushfire in case it hits your place.
Roofs should also be accorded the same attention as gutters. They can also serve as resting places of dried leaves and other things that could easily ignite fire during extreme heat. Wetting the gutters and roof frequently can also help you avoid fires within your property.

Aside from the individual efforts that should be exerted by the residents, they also need to establish good communications with the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS). Any incidents of bushfires no matter how small or how large they are needs to be reported to them. Their world-class team of fire professionals would exhaust all their efforts to put a stop on the devastating bushfires.

While the majority of homeowners in fire zone designated areas pay close attention to gutter cleanliness and compliance with building codes requiring gutter guard covering, the distance that embers can be carried make gutter fire protection from ember attack a prudent investment for those even living some considerable distance from native bushland or forested areas.

Total Guard supplies a range of fire protecting gutter protection products that fully comply with a Council approved fire rating of zero – zero being the best – fully complying with Australian Standard 1530.2-1993 (AS1530.2-1993).

While plastic gutter protection might be perfectly adequate for those living in inner suburban areas, homeowners in areas adjacent to bushfire prone areas should remember that the majority of Australian high fronted gutters are manufactured from metal and more durable to heat than plastic gutters used in some countries, making an investment in a metal fire protection gutter protection system well worth the small difference in price plastic a plastic gutter guard system.

In addition to the increased protection provided from the fitting of fire-rated gutter guard protection systems, some insurance companies may provide homeowners who fit a fire-rated gutter guard protection system with a reduction in their property insurance premiums.

High fronted gutters are a popular addition to homes and when installed and maintained correctly provide an effective method of channeling rain water from the roof to downpipes for discharge into storage tanks or storm water drains, rather than simply falling on the ground and ponding against the foundations of buildings.

Because of issues with poorly designed or fitted roof gutters allowing collected rainwater to enter inside buildings, the Building Code of Australia was amended in 2009 to ensure that high fronted gutters are designed and installed in a manner that prevents collected water from ponding and overflowing into residential properties, particularly during periods of exceptionally heavy rainfall.

Whereas slotted high fronted gutters were once considered adequate, as of May 1, 2009 a wider range of overflow measures have been required to ensure rain water does not enter and damage residential homes.

These measures include: slotted gutter fronts; gutter stop ends set at a lower height than the gutter; a gap between the building fascia and the back of the gutter; installing gutters at a lower level than the building facia.

While the new Building Code of Australia (Volume 2 Part 3.5.2.4 (d)) addresses the potentially damaging result of overflowing gutters on new structures, many homes built prior to the new regulations are not equipped with such safeguards.

Because of their position on a home roof gutters are often overlooked by even the most diligent home maintenance person, often becoming clogged with dirt and leaves which gradually composts and turns into furtive growing areas for fungus and moss which over time can block downpipes and corners, or change the internal profile of the gutter so that water is directed back towards the structure.

One permanent solution to obstructions forming in house roof gutters resulting in overflow is the fitting of sturdy gutter protection guards that stop items such as leaves, fruit or seed pods from overhanging trees, or grass from being deposited in drains, while only marginally reducing the flow of water from roves in the gutters.

Total Guard supplies a wide range of gutter protection products for residential properties, each designed to provide optimal protection and performance without distracting from the visual appeal of your property.

Available as do-it-yourself (DIY) products able to be installed by active home handy people, the range of Total Guard residential home guttering protection products is available in a range of colours and patterns to suit every home.

For those who feel challenged by working on their roof Total Guard can also arrange for its range of residential home gutter protection products to be professional installed by qualified tradespeople at reasonable prices
